Space Age

Artful ceramics, furnishings and artwork for everyday and beyond.

Our story begins many years ago as friends and high school sweethearts.Enjoying the creativity of others and pursuing our own creativity is the basis of Space Age Makers. We believe that everyone has God-given creative talents and our hope is that others will be inspired.

With a background in Fine Arts, Steve has pursued his art for decades. From furniture making and refurbishing with re-purposed materials to becoming a potter 10 years ago and owning a photography studio for 25 years art has always had a presence in his life. He was fortunate enough to eventually teach art which renewed his passion for helping others discover their own creative abilities. Steve enjoys working in multiple mediums and continuing to learn and teach others.

Being intrigued by the creative process and drawn especially to the Abstract Expressionist movement Wanda has always enjoyed afternoons spent roaming art galleries at home and abroad. Largely self-taught she began painting about 5 years ago. With a background in psychology and social work Wanda understands the value of being playful and taking risks in creating art. Being inspired by artists like Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthauler, Joan Mitchell and others in the New York School as well as artists in the Asheville area has given Wanda the courage to explore her own creativity. The beauty of abstraction is to allow the viewer to see the painting from their own perspective. Each painting is a moment in time evoking the feelings, thoughts and memories of the artist.

Appreciation of abstract expressionism, craftsmanship, and the design movements of the mid 20th century for both Steve and Wanda emanates from a time when art and design were being redefined. It also evokes memories of growing up during the birth of the Space Age which on many fronts was an important period of thought and exploration!

Our hope is that others will be inspired to pursue their own creativity and enjoy the value of being a maker!
